BINF 2111. Introduction to Bioinformatics Computing (4). Pre- or corequisites: BINF 1101 corequisites BINF 2111L. This course introduces fundamentals of bioinformatics computing and provides a foundation in bioinformatics and programming for undergraduate training in bioinformatics and genomics. The course will cover introductions to Unix, data types, syntax, and script programming in Python. Students will learn productive use of the Unix environment, focusing on Unix utilities that are particularly useful in bioinformatics and genomics. By the end of the class, students will have gained the ability to analyze data within Unix environment and write well-documented, well-organized programs. The goal of this class is to learn basic Unix and lay a foundation for bioinformatics computing. In addition, we will learn bioinformatics tricks along the way. (Fall)
BINF 2111L. Introduction to Bioinformatics Computing Lab (0). This is a hands-on computing lab in which students learn Bioinformatics computing and programming.
