SPEL 4000. Topics in Special Education: Dual Seminar. (1) Prerequisite: candidates must be applying to Teacher Education and considering admission to the BA in Elementary and Special Education (K-6) Dual Major Program. This seminar will be used to inform candidates of the licensure requirements, plan of study sequence, field experience requirements and importance of progression through the dual program as outlined in the planning sheet. Candidates will also be introduced to the philosophical foundations of a dual teacher preparation program. (Fall)
SPEL 3100. Introduction to Special Education and Dual Program. (3) Prerequisite: Admission to Teacher Education, admission to Dual Program, and EDUC 2100 and SPED 2100. Introduces students to the dual program and examines legislation and litigation that govern and/or influence services for individuals with disabilities. Scrutinizes the IEP process and investigates IEP objectives that reflect the general curriculum standards. Examines one’s personal philosophy of education, which reflects the diversity of students with disabilities. Identifies services, networks, organizations, and publications that serve or are relevant to individuals with disabilities. Identifies and critiques instructionalimplications of published research.
