Summary

The School of Architecture proposes the following changes for the Dual Master of Architecture / Master of Urban Design Curriculum:

 

  • The Graduate Course Catalog list ARCH courses for Year 1.  If Dual Degree students are beginning with MUD courses for Year 1, then we need to make note of the alternative course progression.  
  • Clarify in the curriculum course listing that a History Topic (ARCH 5204/5205) and Technology Topic (ARCH 6306/6307) can be substituted for an Architectural Elective (ARCH 6050). 
  • Clarify in the curriculum course listing that ARCH 5204 and ARCH 5205 are equivalents, whereas ARCH 5205 is a fall semester course listing and ARCH 5204 is a spring and summer semester course listing.
  • Clarify in the curriculum course listing that ARCH 6306 and ARCH 6307 are equivalents, whereas ARCH 6307 is a fall semester course listing and ARCH 6306 is a spring semester course listing.
  • Clarify in the Fall Semester of Year 1 that ARCH 5203 Architectural History III: Survey of Contemporary Theory (1950-Present) (3) is required unless previously taken as a UNC Charlotte Undergraduate as ARCH 4203, thereby ARCH 5205 History Topic (3) is required.
  • Move ARCH 5305 Building Systems Integration (3) from the Fall Semester of Year 1 to Fall Semester of Year 2, and move ARCH 6307 Technology Topic (3) from Fall Semester of Year 2 to Fall Semester of Year 1. 
  • Clarify in the Fall Semester of Year 1 that ARCH 5604 Computational Methods (3) is required unless previously taken as a UNC Charlotte Undergraduate as ARCH 4604, thereby ARCH 6050 Architectural Elective (3) is required.
  • List ARCH 7101 Design Studio: Topical (6) as the first course of the curriculum list for the Fall Semester of Year 1, instead of being the last course listed.
  • Correct the course title for ARCH 6306 Technology Topic 1 in the Spring Semester of Year 2 to ARCH 6306 Technology Topic 1 (3).
  • Add “(3)” credit hours in course listing for ARCH 6306 Technology Topic (3).
  • List ARCH 7102 Design Studio: Comprehensive (6) as the first course of the curriculum list for the Spring Semester of Year 1, instead of being the last course listed.
  • “Optional” Summer Session Courses should be listed for Year 1, as it is listed for Year 3.  These courses can either be denoted as a footnote at the end of the curriculum course listing or embedded in the curriculum course listing.  A footnote would be preferable so the curriculum course listing doesn’t appear as a year-round degree program since the courses are optional.
  • Delete ARCH 7120 Graduate Summer International Study (3) as a course offering for the “Optional” Summer Session Courses.
  • Change the course title for ARCH 7950 Graduate Summer Research Study (3) to ARCH 7950 Graduate Summer Directed Research Study (3).
  • Change the “Optional” Summer Session Courses listed to better reflect the true course offerings:
  • ARCH 6050 Architectural Elective (3) & ARCH 5204 History Topic (3) (Summer Study Abroad)
  • ARCH 6890 Directed Independent Study (1-3)
  • ARCH 7950 Graduate Summer Directed Research Study (3)
  • List MUDD 6101 Fundamentals of Urban Design Studio (6) as the first course of the curriculum list for the Fall Semester of Year 2, instead of being the middle course listed.
  • List MUDD 6102 Urban Open Space and Infrastructure Design Studio (6) as the first course of the curriculum list for the Spring Semester of Year 2, instead of being the middle course listed.
  • Correct the course number for MUDD 6205 20th Century Urban History/Theory (3) in the Spring Semester of Year 2 to MUDD 6205 6204.
  • Rearrange the Summer of Year 2 curriculum course listing to put the courses in the correct order:
