Middle Grades Education Concentration

Degree Requirements

The Concentration in Middle Grades Education consists of 33 credit hours.

Core Courses (6 18 credit hours)

Middle Grades Course (3 credit hours)

 

Advanced Content Specialization and Advanced Methods Coursework (3 9 credit hours)

Advanced Methods Course (3 credit hours)

Students choose one from their content concentration:

Content Specialization Requirements (6 credit hours)

Select one two courses from of the following options in your content area:  areas:

  • Science
  • Science – MDSK 6250, GEOG 5000-6999, ESCI 5000-6999, BIOL 5000-6999, CHEM 5000-6999, PHYS 5000-6999
  • Social Studies
  • Social Studies – MDSK 6254, GEOG 5000-6999, MDSK 5000-6999 (topics course that is content specific), HIST 5000-6999, AFRS 5000-6999, POLS 5000-6999, RELS 5000-6999, WGST 5000-6999
  • Mathematics
  • Mathematics – MDSK 6251, MAED 5000-6999, MATH 5000-6999, STAT 5000-6999
  • English
  • English – ENGL 5000-6999, READ 5000-6999, MDSK 5000-6999 (topics course that is content specific)

 

Including content specific program coursework:

Advanced Specialization Pedagogy (3 credit hours)

A graduate-level pedagogy course should be chosen in consultation with student's advisor. Possible elective options include, and are limited to one of, the following:

(Note. In older catalogs TESL 5101 is listed as an option, but is not listed in the most recent catalog. This is because TESL 5101 is no longer offered-This is just an explanation. I am not asking that this language be added to the catalog).

Degree Requirements

The Concentration in Secondary Education consists of 33 credit hours.

Master's degrees in Mathematics and English Education are offered through the Departments of Mathematics & Statistics  and English , respectively.
