Summary

This proposal seeks minor revisions to Graduate Catalog course numbering, sequencing, and titles for two classes in the MArch degree program and MArch/MUDD dual degree programs in the School of Architecture. The request aims to reverse the order of existing courses ARCH 7101 Design Studio: Comprehensive Design and ARCH 7102 Design Studio: Topical.

ARCH 7101. Design Studio: Topical. (6) Prerequisite: ARCH 6102 or equivalent. This design studio focuses on issues relevant to current architectural practice and/or exploration of architectural theory. Students choose from among several sections of this studio, each of which addresses a different set of issues. The issues addressed as well as the pedagogical approach of these studios are defined by the faculty teaching them. All students must take a minimum of one Topical Design Studio within their area of Concentration. Design Studio: Comprehensive. (6) Prerequisite: ARCH 6102. This design studio focuses on a site-specific project emphasizing technological and systemic issues that lead toward a comprehensive building design. (Fall)

This design studio focuses on a site-specific project emphasizing technological and systemic issues that lead toward a comprehensive building design. Design Studio: Topical. (6) Prerequisite: ARCH 7101. This design studio focuses on issues relevant to current architectural practice and/or exploration of architectural theory. Students choose from among several sections of this studio, each of which addresses  a different set of issues. The issues addressed as well as the pedagogical approach of these studios are defined by the faculty teaching them. All students must take a minimum of one Topical Design Studio within their area of Concentration. Course may be repeated with permission. (Spring)
